他的孙子白山介绍，他一生谦和、低调，对家人非常好。白山说：“我父亲对家人非常好。”他的长子白启哲也是一位著名的山水画家，在继承了他“白派山水”创作风格的基础上，也有着自己的创新。陈克永称，他是朴厚、不张扬的老艺术家，是没有官职但德高望重的老前辈。

中国山水画研究院院长、他的学生陈克永称，白雪石曾为中南海、人民大会堂、钓鱼台国宾馆等绘制巨幅国画数十幅，“他的画作雅俗共赏，他笔下的祖国河山透着清秀的美。”收藏家郭庆祥1993年与他相识。在郭庆祥看来，他是创作题材传统、生活朴实的好画家。“他笔下的青绿山水可以说是他心灵的真实写照。”
